Visit to Ben's birth region

As I posted a few days ago, we left early Friday morning for Shinshicho village. For the first 5 hours in the car, we got used to lots of livestock everywhere and all the creative housing here in Ethiopia. Taking a video of the driving experience doesn't do it justice, but I got a few pictures of us trying to get the herds of livestock in the road.

We stopped in Hosanna, a larger town in the SNNPR region (think of this as a state), to pick up our investigator and check in to the Lemma Hotel which would be our room for the night.

Sidebar, I correctly identified "enset" trees along the road during our drive. This tree is called "false banana". They chop and ground it up and ferment it in the ground to make many different types of food. I was able to eat "kojo", which basically has the texture of eating a bread flavored flip-flop. It's pictured next to the injera and gomen kitfo on the plate :-) Also pictured are the Lemma Hotels famous Macchiatos, a mattress delivery, and Ted and Sisay discussing the micro brewery options available in Ethiopia.

Once I had my helpers, we set out for our adventure to Shinshicho village. We choose not to show Ben's birth family publically here, but we will show you some of the party that started during our visit.

After such a big day, we headed back to the Lemma hotel to regroup. We were heading out the next morning to visit Roots Ethiopia, an orphan prevention group we have been working with loosely before the drive to Hawassa.
